Such a funny month – some folk say it’s the end of Summer – some the start of Autumn, obviously it’s both – but it doesn’t help that the weather seems to be struggling to make its mind up too! We’re getting quite used to seeing four seasons in one day at the moment but also getting quite fed up with these “September showers” and the trouble they’re causing our poor Argyll roads. We’re definitely ready for it to be officially boots weather, scarf weather and time for cosy nights in with the curtains drawn, and the candles lit. If this is you too then come and take a look at some of our new and favourite ranges for Autumn…
Just arrived and out in the shops and online already is our first batch of Brakeburn’s Autumn Winter 2020 Collection. We love this Fairisle Knit Hat which is cosy and stylish and features a wonderful mixed colour pom pom on top. The best bit – there’s also has matching scarf and mittens!
Brakeburn have also introduced some new patterns for their very popular bags this season – this Textured Leaf Hobo Bag is easy to wear with so many colours, using classic navy and burnt orange. Brakeburn bags are fantastic quality and are always very well thought out and practical designs. This improved shape for the hobo bag means it works well as either a shoulder or cross body bag too.
However, the Rain clouds Backpack may be more appropriate right now! Brakeburn backpacks are always the most popular shape – again, they are just so practical and easy to use. This one has sturdy top handles for easy grabbing – and the front pocket has a magnetic closure which eliminates too much faffing. Made of 100% cotton canvas and able to withstand the elements, we do understand why these always the first to be snapped up.
Of course, we couldn’t discuss our Autumn favourites without mentioning the ever popular Powder socks. Perfect for wearing with boots and available in an ever-expanding range of patterns and colour ways, we struggle to keep up! Each pair of Powder socks comes with complimentary, very pretty, gift packaging. So they make excellent presents, even if they’re for yourself!
Also recently arrived from Powder are the exquisite Bettina Gloves with fabulous faux fur trim. Available in Teal, Damson and Sage (pictured) All of which also come with the Powder gift packaging too.
But if it's the element of staying cosy indoors that you're most looking forward to about autumn then why not treat yourself to some new scented candles. This one is from Dryad Candleworks; who take their inspiration from the ancient woodlands, mountains and lochs of Argyll, creating wonderful scented candle tins using only sustainable pure soy wax and fragranced using organic, essential oils and wildcrafted botanic essences. If you’re looking for an authentic slice of Argyll in a tin, then this is it. Each candle is hand poured from a small batch, just down the road from us in Ardrishaig and uses genuine pieces of our local surroundings to work the magic of Argyll woodlands into every one. Each fragrance also has a local name – like this popular Temple Wood Tin.
Of course if you’re dreaming of somewhere slightly more exotic than Kilmartin then maybe something from our new Wax Lyrical range would be better suited – scents include Sea Breeze, Lemon Verbena and Exotic Fig
All available in candle tins, jars, pillar candles and tealights as well as diffusers and even a comforting room spray. And of course we all know that scented candles are the gateway to lighting the fire... or are we getting a bit too carried away?
